Marcus Hook , boom town

When he appeared before our editorial board before the election, U.S. Rep. Pat Meehan spoke glowingly of his hope that the shuttered Sunoco refinery in Marcus Hook could become something of an energy mecca, a hub for energy business up and down the Delaware River waterfront.

Maybe he knew something the rest of us didn't.

Yesterday Sunoco Logistics, the people who now own the sprawling, iconic Delco site, announed their plans to build a $2.5 billion dollar pipeling to deliver gas products from the state's booming Marcellus Shale region to Marcus Hook.

Mariner East 2 would be a brand new pipeline, which would complement an existing pipeline that is a leftover from the heyday of oil refining at the site.

The result could be a huge boost in the amount of material snaking its way across Pennsylvania here to Delaware County and finally to the Hook.

And it also could result in hundreds of new, good-paying jobs. You can get all the details here.

You heard it here first.

Marcus Hook, boom town.
