Merry Christmas, Delaware County.
Your County Council is going to give you an early present today, approving a $338.5 million dollar budget that holds the line on taxes.
You can get all the details here.
A taxpayer with an average home assessed at $135,000 would continue to pay a tax tab of $725.05.
Council meets at 10 a.m.
It also will mark the swansong for Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle. The Springfield Republican won the election for the 26th District state Senate seat being vacated by retiring Sen. Ted Erickson.
There is some irony that one of McGarrigle's last acts will be signing off on this no-tax-hike budget.
It's the first time in several years the county has avoided a tax increase.
They got an earful about it every election from Democrats.
To his credit, McGarrigle never ducked the issue. To those who questioned previous tax hikes, he would always respond, "What do you want to cut?"
He maintained he did not want to slash spending at Fair Acres, the county retirement home, nor the county 911 Emergency Communications center.
Let's hope McGarrigle is as successful in holding the line in Harrisburg.
