Not good enough.
Those three words sum up the Eagles after a thoroughly disheartening third consecutive defeat for the Eagles, which dropped them out of the playoffs.
Chip Kelly was not good enough.
The quarterbacks were not good enough.
The defensive secondary was not good enough.
The truth? This team is very likely closer to the team that just lost three straight games than the group that was puffing up its chest with a 9-3 mark less than a month ago.
The Eagles never shook off the physical - and psychological - beating put on them by the Seahawks, who now look like they are streaking toward a second straight Super Bowl.
Up until Saturday, Chip Kelly specialized in winning games against inferior foes. But the Seattle game, much as the Green Bay game did earlier in the year, showed just how far away the Eagles are from being an elite team, one that can seriously be mentioned in the same breath as the words Super Bowl.
There is really no excuse for the way the Eagles played on Saturday. For the third straight week, they gave every appearance of being unprepared to play.
And they showed the same reckless, undisciplined style of play - including a recurring theme of costly penalties - that has become their hallmark. All of that sits at the feet of Chip Kelly.
He may very well be an offensive genius. His 'hair on fire' offense was a novelty that seemed to catch the league off guard. But it is dependent on acquiring first downs. Denied that, this team week after week got exposed by an offense that was unable to sustain drives and a defense that was unable to get off the field.
For some unknown reason, Chip Kelly decided to put his team's chances on the right shoulder of Mark Sanchez when this team's success is dependent on being able to run the ball.
Chip Kelly's quarterback likely is not on this roster right now.
Kelly and Roseman will have to retool. They might want to start with their defensive coordinator, especially if it turns out that it was Billy Davis's call the last couple of weeks to not have a safety offer 'over the top' help for torched cornerback Bradley Fletcher.
The Eagles were the only ray of hope on what is increasingly a bleak Philly sports landscape.
Pat Gillick has already warned us that the Phillies will not contend for several years.
The Sixers are a national embarrassment.
The Flyers likely will not make the playoffs.
How many days until training camp? And how many guys on this roster will be back next year?
Every year I spit out the same prediction when it comes to the Eagles. 10-6 and a spot in the playoffs. They are not going to the post-season this year. There is no guarantee they will next year either.
Chip Kelly has led something of a charmed existence in his two seasons as the man in the brightest spotlight in Philly sports.
The honeymoon is over. Chip Kelly will learn that in the next few weeks and months.
Hopefully, he will react to that better than he did to the last three weeks.
Three simple words: Not good enough.
