Another Republican joins County Council

Count this as perhaps the least surprising story of the year, even if we're only six days into 2015.

Those of you holding your breath waiting for a Democrat to be appointed to fill the vacancy on Delaware County Council can stop any time now.

Ain't going to happen.

Michael Culp is the newest member of County Council.

Makes sense. He replaces former Council Chairman Tom McGarrigle, who today will be sworn in as the state senator for the 26th District. McGarrigle was a Republican. So is Culp.

McGarrigle was a former Springfield Township commissioner. Ditto for Culp.

Mario Civera, who made the reverse commute, leaving his longtime post as a state rep in Harrisburg to run for County Council, is the new council chairman.

You can get all the details here.

Several Democrats, including former Lansdowne Mayor Jayne Young, Media treasurer Bob Dimond and Trainer pastor Keith Collins all had shown an interest in the job.
