Eagles fans are no doubt still wiping the drool off their chins after watching Marcus Mariota lead Oregon to a thorough demolition of unbeaten Florida State last night in the Rose Bowl.
Mariota would seem to be the ideal quarterback to run Chip Kelly's offense. After all, he was hand-picked by Kelly to run the show for the Ducks.
There is almost no chance, however, that Mariota will be around when the Eagles get around to picking with the No. 20 selection in the next NFL Draft.
Here's a possible fallback position. Did anyone else see Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty? He looked very good even though his Bears lost on a last-second field goal to Michigan State.
He's not nearly as mobile as Mariota, but he just might have a better arm.
Petty completed 36 of 51 passes for a Cotton Bowl-record 550 yards and three touchdowns. Keep that name in the back of your mind. He just might be there when the Eagles go on the board.
