Those who say Fred Pickett Jr. was a basketball coach really didn't know the man.
We used our front page today to pay tribute to the man whose effect on the young people of Chester extended far beyond the hardwood of the gym that now bears his name.
Matt DeGeorge has all the details of the very special ceremony they held Tuesday night to honor Pickett.
We also used our editorial page to salute the coach, more so for what he did off the court, which equaled the level of excellence his teams consistently achieved on the hardwood.
Pickett's legacy will stand forever, every time a young person enters the Chester High gymnasium.
Make that the Fred Pickett Jr. Gymnasium.
