We're offering a $50 gift card for best teen essay on dangers of texting & driving

I can't count the number of times we've editorialized about the dangers of driving and texting.

Nowhere is that more essential than when it comes to young people. The phone just seems like a natural extension of their hands. But it can be deadly when combined with getting behind the wheel.

That's why I'm glad that we are teaming with the Pennsylvania NewsMedia Association and AT&T in a campaign to focus attention on the dangers of texting and driving.

The push has been dubbed "It Can Wait," urging young people to resist the urge to text while driving.

This is specifically targeting teens, but the truth is that all drivers would do well to heed this advice.

But for kids, they can write an essay and possibly win a $50 gift card and a grand prize of $500 for the piece that best answers this question: "Why is it important to take the "It Can Wait' pledge to never text and drive?"

You can get all the details here.
