I've been spending a lot of time recently trying to answer the following question: What were they thinking of?
Brian Williams falls into this category. The top-rated anchor of the NBC Evening News is taking himself off the air for a few days in the wake of the conflagration surrounding a bogus story he was pedaling of a helicopter coming under fire while he was covering the war in Iraq.
What was Williams thinking? I don't have a clue. Same goes for Rob McCord.
A lot of people thought the Pennsylvania treasurer, a Democrat, would make a good governor.
Not anymore.
That's because McCord has now admitted he was shaking down people doing business with his office and the state to make donations to his struggling campaign.
What is in the water out there in Harrisburg that makes people behave this way?
It's the focus of my Monday print column today.
