Delco Dems do the right thing

I've been fairly critical of Delaware County Democrats in the wake of the debacle that led to their three endorsed candidates for seats on County Council getting booted from the May primary ballot.

The Republicans challenged the Dems' petitions because they were not filed with the two county offices - as required by law.

Dem Chairman David Landau ranted about the system being unfair, and county workers not being especially helpful, and how the system was created by Republicans and favors them.

Pardon me while I break out the world's smallest violin.

Landau knows the rules, he once ran for County Council himself. No one else seemed to have a problem with the requirements.

At least the Democrats are now doing the right thing.

They announced they will not appeal the ruling the County Judge James Proud tossing them off the ballot.

Instead they will focus on getting the 250 write-in votes needed to appear on the general election ballot in November. That shouldn't be a problem, even for Delco Dems.

County GOP leader Andy Reilly indicated Republicans likely will not run any write-in candidates in efforts to keep the Dems off the ballot. The Democrats are now putting this in the rear-view mirror and moving on. Good for them.

I wish them well. Despite this latest faux pas, one thing remains evident. Delaware County government is decidedly run by one party. That would be Republicans.

Voters at least need a choice.

I hope that county Democrats can give it to them.
