It's Tebow Time in Philly

Thank you, Chip Kelly.

I don't have any idea if Tim Tebow will ever take a single snap for the Philadelphia Eagles. For that matter, I'm not totally convinced Sam Bradford will either.

What I do know is this. I can't remember a time when the Philly sports landscape looked this bleak.

So, yes, I had to crack a smile last night when I checked my phone and found that Tebow was blowing up the Twitter-sphere when word leaked that the Eagles would sign the Heisman Trophy winner to a one-year deal today.

Let's face it. The Phillies are giving every indication of being as bad as advertised.

The Flyers? They only make news these days when they dump their latest head coach. On Friday they canned longtime Flyers fixture Craig Berube. Then of course they failed to get lucky in the NHL Draft on Saturday, missing a chance to draft the next "one," Connor McDavid. Instead the Flyers will draft seventh, as expected.

The Sixers are waiting for the NBA Draft, and trying to determine exactly when Joel Embiid will join their lineup.

So Kelly decided to throw us - or at least talk radio - a bone with the Tebow news. You have to believe Anthony Gargano is happy. The timing is perfect as he kicks off his morning show on WFAN, and offers a challenge the morning supremacy of Angelo Cataldi and the morning gang on WIP.

Before anyone rushes to anoint Tebow, remember he has not played in an NFL game since 2012, when he backed up another current Eagles QB, March Sanchez, with the Jets.

Tebow, the former Heisman Trophy winner who led Florida to two national championships, has made as much news for his religious beliefs as his exploits on the field. He makes no bones about his Christianity. His unique method of celebrating a score, taking a knee and placing his hand on his forehead in prayer, became something of a sensation known as "Tebowing."

But he hasn't been on the field since the 2013 preseason with the Patriots.

There's a lot of talk about how Kelly continues to seek a quarterback with the ability to run, especially in his red zone offense. It's an area where the Eagles have struggled during his two seasons at the helm.

Is Tebow the answer? I doubt it.

But it will be fun to watch. And talk about.

And really, what else do we have to look forward to?
