Why people are turned off to voting

Ever wonder why so few people are bothering to vote?

I do.

I think I might have a small part of the answer.

You can find it if you look at what happened in a couple of legislative districts.

Take a look at the 191st, which includes a slice of Darby and Yeadon, and the 161st, which cuts a wild swath through Ridley, Nether Providence and all the way out to Haverford.

What happened in these two districts - although distinctly different - explain a part of why people are so turned off to the process. Rep. Ron Water, D-191, is gone. He resigned after entering a guilty plea in a corruption probe.

Rep. Joe Hackett, R-161, also is gone, but of his own decision. He decided to come back to Delco and his old job as a county detective.

In the meantime, while the state holds one of the most important budget discussions in its history, residents in these two districts effectively have no representation in Harrisburg.

It's on our editorial page today.
