We used our editorial page today to talk about the situation in the Chester Upland School District.
They held a celebration yesterday, ringing bells to mark the beginning of another school year.
But they're only able to do so because teachers are reporting to work knowing they will not be paid - at least not until the state puts a new spending plan in place.
But even a new spending plan is not going to fix the fiscal ills the district faces.
After the state's plea to a Delaware County judge to change the reimbursement formula for special education students in charter schools was shot down, it's clear that job will now fall to the state Legislature.
Maria Weatherly was right. She's a math teacher at Chester High and city resident who penned a guest column in yesterday's Daily Times. She said that teachers are going back to work, even though they're not being paid.
Now it's time for the Legislature to do the same, for the children of Chester Upland.
She's right.
Here's our editorial.
