Dear Chip: Cut them both

I'll make this easy for Chip Kelly. (I know he's just dying to hear my opinion.)

Yes, Tim Tebow played better than Matt Barkley as the Eagles lost the preseason finale to the Jets Thursday night.

No, that does not mean either one of them necessarily should make the final roster.

Use that valuable spot for a place that you have a true need, like adding a body to shore up that outside linebacker spot.

The truth is that there likely is not going to be any rush to sign either one of these guys. That's particularly true of Tebow.

Cut them both. Don't waste a roster spot on a guy who is going to hold a clipboard most of the season.

If the Eagles are down to to Barkley or Tebow this season, that means both starter Sam Bradford and backup Mark Sanchez have gone down with injury.

And it means what shapes up as a most promising season likely is down the drain as well.

Bob Grotz was at the game and notes Tebow clearly outplayed Barkley.

Columnist Jack McCaffery also was in North Jersey and makes the case for Tebow.
