Delco firm to unveil official Pope commemorative medallions today

The visit by Pope Francis next week as the highlight to a week of World Meeting of Families activities is expected to provide a $500 million jolt to the region's economy.

But it will be another kind of coin that will be the focus today.

The official medallions to commemorate the pontiff's visit will be unveiled today - and they're being created by a company right here in Delaware County.

Officials will show off the coins this morning at the Keystone Mint in Folcroft. They crafted and produced the official coins, hand-crafted antique bronze medallions.

The front sculpt was commissioned to Mariangela Crisciotti, a sculptor in Rome who has worked with the Vatican on previous projects. The reverse sculpt was commissioned to Bruno Malone, also from Italy, who now resides in South Philadelphia.

Delaware County Council members will be on hand to get the first look at the commemorative coin.

We'll be there to give you your first look at the medallions, and tell you how you can get one - and how much they will cost.
