Fanning the flames of Phillies angst

We interrupt the wailing and gnashing of teeth over the Eagles unexpected loss on opening night vs. the Falcons to bring you this bulletin:

Relax, it could be worse.

You could still care about the Phillies.

Oh, you say you do. That's too bad.

The Phillies struck out 13 times in falling meekly to the Washington Nationals last night at Citizens Bank Park. They lost 12-2. No, the 10-run rule was not put into effect. There's no mercy for this ugly season.

The latest debacle came one night after the Phils' bats were completely overmatched against D.C. ace Stephen Strassburg. He recorded 14 strikeouts in blowing through the Phillies lineup.

The Phils fanned a staggering 42 times in getting swept in this series.

They don't hit, and aside from Aaron Nola, they don't pitch much either.

The Cowboys game can't get here fast enough.
