We're one week and counting until the arrival of Pope Francis. He is due to touch down at Philadelphia International Airport next Saturday.
On Tuesday, the World Meeting of Families kicks off in Philadelphia. It runs through Saturday, culminating in the Festival of Families Saturday night on the Parkway.
To get you ready for this historic occasion, we've created a special 32-page commemorative section that is included in every copy of today's Daily Times.
This section will act as your guide for the week. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about where the pope will be, what you need to take part in the festivities, and the many security and travel restrictions that will be in effect across the region. We’ll give you a transit survival guide as a way to get around the region, and a full listing of the week’s events.
The pope will be in the city for two days, Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 26 and 27, and the effects will ripple out across the region. Pope Francis will give a speech on Saturday at Independence Hall, then take part in the Festival of Families Saturday night on the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and finally celebrate a special outdoor Mass at Eakins Oval on the Parkway on Sunday afternoon that is expected to draw more than a million of the faithful.
We’ll also give you a complete rundown of the World Meeting of Families, which will take place all week starting on Tuesday.
Included will be a full schedule of events for the World Meeting of Families, as well as the details on when and where the pope will appear.
Make sure you pick a copy of the newspaper this Friday for this special commemorative keepsake section marking one of the biggest events in Philadelphia history.
