A 1st for Chester - and PPL Park

There will be a first for the city of Chester - and PPL Park - tomorrow.

The stadium built as a home for Major League Soccer's Union franchise will host its first-ever rock concert.

The Monster Energy Rock Allegiance Festival will kick off Saturday at noon and features 22 bands, including Rob Zombie, Godsmack, Korn and Steel Panther.

A local band under the auspices of the Let There Be Rock School in Ridley Township also will be featured on the bill. Zombie Kidz features a young group of Delco rockers, ages 9-12. They've already played venues such as a slot at the Electric Factory in Philly, where they opened for blues metal superstars Clutch.

In addition to the music, there will be gourmet food vendors and craft beer giants, including Victory Brewing from Downingtown.

Get all the details here.

When PPL Park was built several years ago - with a big chunk of public money - one of the ideas is that it would be utilized for a variety of events. The stadium, in the shadow of the Commodore Barry Bridge on Chester's spectacular waterfront, has held any number of sports events, but this is its first rock show.

And how appropriate is it that the town that gave us one of rock 'n' roll's true pioneers, Bill Haley, should find itself home to a huge rock show.

Make sure you pick up a copy of tomorrow's Daily Times for a full preview of what's on tap at PPL Park tomorrow.
