'Back to the Future?' Not for the Cubs

So much for those "Back to the Future" predictions, Cubs fans.

By now you probably have heard that yesterday - Oct. 21, 2015 - was the date made famous by Doc Brown and Marty McFly in the hip flick "Back to the Future." The duo - Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd - climbed into that souped up DeLorean and landed in the future, 2015 to be exact.

One of the things they discovered there was the Cubs in the World Series.

The real-life Cubbies stepped up to the plate, winning a Wild Card slot and then facing the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.

But that's where the bubble burst.

The New Yorkers dominated the Cubs in the series, with Daniel Murphy - who had a career high 14 home runs this year - somehow managing to homer in six consecutive postseason games.

That's never been done before. Murphy eclipsed the mark of Carlos Beltran at six straight playoff games with a homer.

The Mets blew away the Cubs in the Windy City 8-3 last night in the Windy City to complete the sweep.

That wailing and gnashing of teeth you hear is Phillies fans who had adopted the downtrodden Cubs coming to grips that the New York Mets are going to the World Series.

'Back to the Future' be damned.
