Here's a little scoop for you.
I'm going to go way out on a limb here and predict that Delaware County Council this morning will announce that there will no tax hike in the 2016 budget.
I make this prediction because the county sent out a press release yesterday to note that while Pennsylvania and the federal government are having their budget issues, Delaware County also is ready to make some budget news.
As I said, I think they will announce a no-tax-hike budget.
On Oct. 7, just about a month before the November election in which three seats on County Council just happen to be up for grabs.
A coincidence? Sure.
Republican County Council members John McBlain, Colleen Morrone and Michael Culp are being challenged by Democrats Christine Reuther, Sharon Booker and Richard Womack.
A Democrat has not been elected to County Council since the Home Rule Charter was changed back in the 1970s.
Democrats have gone to great lengths the past few years to hammer the all-Republican County Council for a series of tax hikes.
Interestingly enough, I don't recall County Council putting out a press release about those budgets. In fact, if memory serves me correct, we often had to push County Council to get the details on those budgets - and the corresponding tax hikes - before Election Day.
Hey, I don't blame County Council for not wanting to talk about increasing taxes for residents, especially when it is coming just days before an election.
At the same time, I'm more than a little skeptical that today's announcement just happens to be coming a lot earlier than previous years.
The announcement will come at 10:45 in the public meeting room of the County Government Center.
My money's on "No Tax Hike."
We'll let you know.
