Another chapter in the Kane Scrutiny

One thing is becoming increasingly clear in Pennsylvania's new political blood sport, other wise known as the Kane Scrutiny.

If she goes down, embattled Attorney General Kathleen Kane has no intention of going down alone.

Facing increasing legal pressures in the wake of being criminally charged in connection with grand jury leaks, and specifically lying to a grand jury about it and then trying to cover it up, the state's top law enforcement officer continues her scorched earth defense. She continues to release dribs and drabs of a treasure trove of pornographic emails her office uncovered while reviewing the way her predecessor - then attorney general, soon to be Gov. Tom Corbett - handled the investigation into Jerry Sandusky.

Yesterday Kane complied with a judge's order that she offer documentation to back up her suggestion that the grand jury looking at the Sandusky case had been compromised by leaks of its own. Unfortunately for her, that reply amounted to an admission she had no such email evidence.

But the judge was not satisfied, indicating nothing that Kane submitted would back up her allegation that the Sandusky grand jury could have been affected by leaks. He ordered her to appear in his chambers today for a meeting at which he will question her about her claims.

In the meantime, the collateral damage in this tawdry affair continues to grow, as Kane continues to release more porn emails. According to an Associated Press report, the state Capitol crowd is literally on pins and needles, wondering who will be next to get hit with the mud flying off this scandal.

How bas is it?

Listen to Northampton County District Attorney John Morganelli, a one-time supporter of Kane.

"It's a mess. It's just a freaking mess," he said. "And it gets worse every day. It's like going into a war zone."

Mind you, this is the state's top law enforcement officer.

Only in Pennsylvania.
