Foles, Bradford both on the bench

Sam Bradford now has something else in common with Nick Foles.

Neither one is going to play on Sunday.

The Eagles sent Foles and a second round draft pick to the Rams after last season for Bradford, who was coming off two successive ACL tears in his left knee.

Most people believed Chip Kelly was simply planning to use Bradford, a former No. 1 pick in the draft, as a bargaining 'chip' in his grant plan to move up in the draft and take Oregon QB Marcus Mariota.

Didn't work out that way.

Kelly stuck with Bradford as his starter, even though he does not have the mobility most people believe is needed to run Kelly's offense.

Foles wasn't exactly Michael Vick back there either.

He went to the Rams, but has struggled.

This week coach Jeff Fisher pulled the plug, saying he was going with backup Case Keenum.

Bradford suffered a concussion and shoulder injury in the Birds' embarrassing come-from-ahead loss to the Dolphins Sunday. It is likely that backup Mark Sanchez will start the next two games.

I'll admit I was never a Foles fan, even when he was having that astounding year when he threw 27 touchdowns and just 2 interceptions. I believe Bradford is a much more talented quarterback. He was not only the Rams' No. 1 pick, he was the No. 1 pick in the entire draft. Those kinds of talents don't come around every day.

But Bradford has been plagued by injuries.

After knocking off some rust after being off most of two years, and having the offense tailored a bit more to fit what he does best, Bradford appeared to be coming around.

Now, of course, he's on the shelf again.

That is part of what you get with him. He's going to get hurt. No one should be surprised.

I'll also admit that the Eagles tempo on Sunday actually did look better with Sanchez running the show. But you just knew what was coming. We all did.

On 2nd down from the Dolphins 8-yard line - that's right it was 2nd down - Sanchez did what he always does in the red zone. He tried to force a ball to Miles Austin in the center of the field. Austin looked completely disinterested - as he did much of the day on Sunday - and the ball was intercepted.

Game, set and match.

Sanchez will start Sunday vs. the Buccaneers, and probably Thanksgiving Day in Detroit.

So Bradford and Foles are reunited again - on the bench.
