The Dreaded Saturday Eagles Pick

It’s Payback Time.

The Eagles turned in maybe their worst offensive performance of the year back on Week Two at Lincoln Financial Field. Instead of getting revenge on his old team, running back DeMarco Murray spent most of the day going in reverse. Ditto for Sam Bradford and the rest of the Eagles offense.

Now the Birds invade Dallas fresh off their bye week for another prime time show Sunday night.

Thanks to both the Giants and ‘Boyz losing last weekend, the Eagles are still sitting in second place in the NFC Least, just one game back of New York.

Now it’s time for Sam Bradford and the Eagles to step up. Murray still might get his revenge, since Ryan Mathews seems to be getting the lion’s share of the carries these days.

But the big problem with the Eagles offense has been problems with Bradford and his receivers getting on the same page, along with their incredible knack for dropping balls that Bradford delivers right in their hands.

That has to end. I think it will. Yes, that means I am picking the Birds for the eighth straight week. Call me a homer if you wish.

I think Bradford is still rounding into form after missing almost two full years with two ACL tears and playing little if any in the preseason.

Plus, the Eagles still get the Cowboys without QB Tony Romo. Stud wideout Dez Bryant is playing but does not appear to be anything close to 100 percent. He was shut down last week in Seattle. The hope is that Byron Maxwell with help from a safety can do the same. Matt Cassell likely will bank on noted Eagles killer Jason Witten.

Bradford will need to keep his head on a swivel for Greg Hardy, the troublesome - and troubled - Dallas defensive end who missed the first game while serving a suspension. If tackle Jason Peters is unable to go, this could be a huge problem for the Eagles.

I think Sam and company get it done.

The Pick: Make it Eagles 23, Cowboys 13. The Eagles defense should be able to overwhelm the undermanned Cowboys’ offense. This one will come down to Sam Bradford continuing to progress, and his receivers holding onto the ball.

Last Week: Before the bye, the Eagles squandered a great opportunity to knock the Carolina Panthers from the ranks of the unbeaten. Instead they dropped everything Bradford threw at them, and dropped the game as well on a night when Cam Newton was eminently beatable.

Season Record: I’m marching to the same tune with the Eagles. They fell back to 3-4 with a loss to Carolina, but remain just one game behind the Giants. A win Sunday night puts us both back at the .500 mark.
