Celebrating 51 new Americans

Yesterday I used this space to detail my increasing dislike for the flat-out ugly sentiment that passes for political discourse these days.

Today I used our editorial page to do the same.

Leading the parade? Of course that would be none other than Donald Trump.

Ironically, last night 51 people took the oath of office as new citizens in a ceremony at the Delaware County Courthouse.

They came from many corners of the globe.

Yes, some of them were Muslim.

I liked what Koumba Kante, a 21-year-old student from Guinea - who happens to be Muslim - had to say.

"You can't just ban all Muslims from coming because all Muslims are not terrorists," the Aldan woman said in an interview with Channel 6..

And that is the point.

Today, Koumba Kante is something else.

She is an American citizen.

That is the backbone of this country.

Not even Donald Trump can change that.
