Chip: We're not a bad football team

Chip Kelly still thinks the Eagles are a good football team.

Do they not get the NFL standings down there at the NovaCare Center?

Kelly's Eagles are missing the playoffs for the second year in a row. And for the first time under the former wizard from Oregon, they will finish with a losing record. His offense seems to struggle a bit more each year, and his defense is an ongoing nightmare.

"I don't think we're a bad football team," Kelly told the assembled media Monday after his team was dismantled by a mediocre Washington Redskins team with the NFC East title on the line. No, the Eagles would not have locked up the title with a win. But the Redskins did. They played like it was a playoff game. And Kelly's Heroes? Well, reports indicat that All-Pro offensive lineman Jason Peters took himself out of the game rather then risk further injuries after the game was out of hand.

Believe it or not, the quip about not being a bad team is not even the most bizarre thing Kelly said. He actually said he was not the team's general manager and seemed to backtrack from what most believe - that he runs the Eagles operation and has final say on the roster and all personnel decisions.

And he said all this with a straight face.

You can read it all here.

Now the Eagles - for the second straight year - will play a meaningless game against the Giants to finish off a dismal season.

Unless of course you are a fan of those odd NFL games played in London.

That's right. The loser of the Eagles-Giants game likely will be flying across the pond for a date with the St. Louis Rams in Wembley Stadium in late October.

Tally ho, Chip.
