No Pa. budget, but Sandusky gets his $4,900-a-month pension

Here's pretty much everything you need to know about Pennsylvania.

We still do not have a state budget, more than five months after the state constitution mandates one be in place.

We do, however, have a $4,900-a-month tab for Jerry Sandusky's pension.

The State Employees Retirement System let the deadline pass yesterday without appealing a court ruling that said Sandusky - the convicted child abuser at the center of the storm that drove Penn State to its knees and Joe Paterno from his icon's perch - should get his pension back.

The court had ruled the state erred when they determined Sandusky was a university employee at the time of the child sexual abuse claims. Thus, he was entitled to his state pension.

The child molester also is owed back benefits - with interest. Sandusky already collected a lump sum payment of $148,000 on his retirement.

In the meantime, local school districts continue to struggle in the midst of the budget impasse. Some have indicated they can no longer borrow money to make ends meet. And several have indicated that unless a new budget is in place, they will not open their doors after the Christmas holiday.

Only in Pennsylvania. No wonder they call us Land of Giants.
