The Chester Panthers are headed to Florida

Never underestimate the power of community. The Chester Panthers are going to Florida!

The undefeated, unscored upon youth football team rolled through their regular season schedule, but faced an even more imposing foe in order to compete for the national title. They needed to raises $11,000 to make the trip to the 8-under UFYL national tournament in Plant City, Fla., this weekend.

Consider it done. The community answered the bell and helped them raise more than $10,000 to pay for expenses.

Tonight there will be a pep rally and sendoff celebration starting at 6 in the City Hall community room sponsored by the city Department of Parks and Recreation.

The effort to help the Panthers is a testament to the good people in Chester and Delaware County. Don't stop now. Contributions are still being accepted.

I couldn't be happier that the Daily Times was able to play a small role in helping these kids' dream come true. Kudos to all involved.

Now I only want the Panthers to do one more thing! Bring back the title! Delco Proud! Chester Proud!
