The return of Gil Spencer, at least online

Not a week goes by that someone does not ask me about my old partner in crime.

'Whatever happened to Gil Spencer?'

Gil wrote our lead feature column on Page Six for years. He was loved by our legions of conservative readers who never missed an opportunity to lambaste me and the newspaper's editorial board for our liberal views.

For several years, Gil would join me in our 'Live From the Newsroom' live-stream Internet show on Wednesday nights.

Let's just say a lot more people tuned in to see Gil than me.

It was Gil who first uncovered the magical story of Tommy Geromichalos, the young man battling Cystic Fibrosis whose "wish" was that his local parochial school remain open. The Make-A-Wish Foundation obviously could not grant his wish, but Gil did. Gil's column and the appearance of Tommy's letter on our front page unleashed a huge community outpouring that did in fact save St. Cyril of Alexandria School in East Lansdowne, at least for a few years.

Gil came to see the writing on the wall in terms of the newspaper business, and finally accepted an offer that was too good to refuse. Like most of constantly adapting in this ever-changing news racket, in addition to his print column, Gil penned a popular blog he called 'Spencerblog.'

I'm happy to report that Spencer is back!

No, he's probably not going to be appearing in the pages of the Daily Times on a regular basis.

But he's back writing the blog and you can check it out here.

Go ahead, conservatives, cheer.

And liberals. Well, you're stuck with me.
