Your early morning report from the roads

Several Delaware County school districts are opening two hours later this morning in the wake of an early morning snow storm that is sure to make for a messy commute.

Here’s the list so far:

Haverford.

Garnet Valley.

Penn-Delco.

Radnor.

Rose Tree Media.

Springfield.

Marple Newtown.

Upper Darby.

Cardinal O’Hara.

Delco Christian.

Wet, heavy snow flakes started falling about 4 a.m. and has picked up intensity in the last couple of hours. Main roads continue to be mostly wet, but side roads are starting to be covered.

Here’s the quick forecast: Snow will continue until 10 a.m. and then taper off. We’ll actually see some sun this afternoon, but it will be blustery with a high of 44.

We have a warmup for the weekend, with sun and clouds Saturday and a high of 47, and then close to 50 on Sunday.

Enjoy it while you can. The forecast sees another chance of snow Monday night into Tuesday.

• In the meantime, here’s your early morning report from the roads.

So much for Punxsutawney. Winter is back.

Yes, it is snowing. Heavily.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that the roads at this point are only wet. I had no problems on my morning commute.

Snow was just starting to fall as I left the house, then was snowing heavily as I made my way to the office. I really only saw a coating on a couple of spots on Providence Road. Other than that the main roads are just wet.

The forecast calls for a coating to maybe at most a couple of inches across the region, more in South Jersey and down the shore. But it should not be a huge factor on the roads.

Of course, that does not take into account a rush-hour Friday morning traffic.

The lawns and sidewalks are another matter. They are being covered quickly.

And you will likely have to brush the snow off your car this morning.

Take your time and you should be fine.

As usual, it’s one of the few times I’m grateful for the early hours I keep. There was no one on the roads.
