It's Howie's way or the highway.
Or, welcome to today's edition of "Hell hath no fury like Howie scorned."
It was just a year ago that Howie Roseman lost a power struggle with Eagles head coach Chip Kelly. The coach who did everything at warp speed didn't waste any time in telling owner Jeff Lurie that he couldn't exist with Roseman controlling personnel decisions.
Lurie sided with his coach, a snub to his longtime confidante Roseman. Howie was banished to the far end of the Nova Care Center.
It didn't exactly work out.
Kelly was a disaster as GM.
Lurie, who said he wanted to give Kelly every opportunity to be great, had seen enough after 15 games. He fired Kelly before the end of the season.
Now Roseman is back in the catbird's seat, and he is remaking the team in his vision.
In other words, those who were brought in by Chip Kelly or who don't seem ready to buy into the new regime of Howie and his hand-picked head coach Doug Pederson, are sent packing.
It is believed that Wednesday, when the NFL officially kicks off its new season and free agency, the Eagles will make official several deals sending Kelly acquisitions the door.
DeMarco Murray, who never quite fit into Kelly's offense and was not shy about telling the owner about it, will be dealt to the Tennessee Titans.
Underperforming linebacker Kiko Alonso, acquired from the Bills in a deal that saw Kelly trade away the team's all-time leading rusher in LeSean McCoy, and cornerback Byron Maxwell, signed to a rich $63 million deal, are headed to the Dolphins.
The one exception to all this is quarterback Sam Bradford. He was brought in by Kelly, and was signed last week to a two-year extension that seems to benefit both parties.
Roseman's actions could not be more clear. First, he went about locking up the key young building blocks on the team. Then he took a meat cleaver to all the questionable personnel decisions made by Kelly.
This is now his team. All vestiges of the Chip Kelly Era have a target on their back.
The makeover is moving at the same speed as Kelly's offense.
Call them Howie's Heroes, and let the "Chips" fall where they may.
