11:30 a.m. Republican U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey has cast his vote for fellow Republican Sen. Ted Cruz in the Republican presidential primary. "He's a solid conservative," Toomey told the Morning Call in Allentown after voting in Zionsville. "We don't agree on everything, but having served with him in the Senate, I know Ted pretty well and I think he's got a real, real viable shot of beating Hillary Clinton in the fall."
The Toomey voted prompted a reaction from a possible foe, Democrat Katie KcGinty: “Pat Toomey has spent the past six years in Washington looking out for the special interests, and his vote today for Ted Cruz is a stark reminder of the anti-middle class record Toomey’s built in Washington.
"Together, Toomey and Cruz shut down the government so that Americans couldn’t access quality health care. Toomey and Cruz would both change Social Security and Medicare as we know it, drastically cutting benefits for Pennsylvania seniors. Both Toomey and Cruz have supported generous tax cuts for corporations that ship jobs overseas and paid for by the hard working middle class.
“These policies may be good news for Toomey’s friends at the Club for Growth, which also backs Ted Cruz, but they hurt Pennsylvanians. It’s time for a champion like Katie McGinty, who will be a voice for the middle class and stand firmly opposed to the misguided policies of Pat Toomey, Ted Cruz and the rest of the special interests allies.”
