Howie lookin'? I'm still a Bradford guy

Count me among the naysayers.

Remember, I'm a Sam Bradford guy.

Apparently that group does not include Howie Roseman.

Yes, I am aware that the Eagles boss stepped in front of a bank of microphones yesterday and said flatly that Bradford is the Eagles starting quarterback this year.

I'm not so sure.

Unless you've been in a coma, you may have missed the fact that Roseman and the Eagles shook up the football world yesterday by pulling off a blockbuster deal to move up in the draft, sending a boatload of draft picks to the Browns for the No. 2 pick in the April 28 NFL Draft.

The accepted wisdom is that the Rams will use the No. 1 pick on their favored QB, Jared Goff of California, clearing the way for the Birds to scoop up North Dakota State wunderkind Carson Wentz at No. 2.

So where does that leave Bradford? Behind center as the Eagles starter, at least for this year, according to Roseman.

I'm not so sure.

The Eagles have invested a ton of money now in the quarterback position, having signed Bradford to a two-year deal for $35 million and then inking backup Chase Daniels to a three-year, $31 million deal. Now they're going to pay multi-millions to Wentz to hold a clipboard for a couple of years.

If you say so, Howie.

v Keep your eyes on the Broncos. I'm not for a second believing they plan to go into the season with Mark Sanchez as their starting quarterback. Bradford and Sanchez may wind up as teammates once again.

I'll reiterate something that no one else seems to want to talk about. For the last half of the season, Bradford was playing as well as any QB in the NFL.

According to ESPN, he's not exactly thrilled about this latest move by Roseman.

I can't say I blame him.

I'll give Roseman credit for this: He believes QB is the key to long-term success in the NFL. And they obviously believe Wentz is a better long-term option than Bradford.

In away, this is something of a sequel for movie-maker owner Jeff Lurie.

In 1999 he had a new coach, Andy Reid, and snagged a franchise quarterback in the draft when the Birds snapped up Donovan McNabb. Now he's hoping history repeats itself with Doug Pederson and Carson Wentz.

There is no small irony in the guy the Eagles rolled out there as their QB for those first eight weeks before handing the mantle over to McNabb?

And who might that have been? Why none other than Pederson, of course.

Will lightning strike twice? Possibly.

But remember where you heard this. Don't be surprised next year if the Denver Broncos repeat as Super Bowl champions. And right there holding the Lombardi trophy is the quarterback who filled the void left by the retirement of Peyton Manning.

His name is Sam Bradford.
