Eagles will not be as good as they would have been with Bradford, but that's OK

As the president of the Sam Bradford Fan Club, I was predicting a big year for the Eagles. With a revamped defense, a much more refined offense as opposed to the fire drill run by Chip Kelly, and a depleted NFC East, I saw them winning the division and possibly making a decent run in the playoffs.

That was then.

This is now.

Welcome to the Carson Wentz Era.

The truth is no one knows what is going to happen when the rookie from North Dakota State lines up behind Jason Kelce Sunday at the Linc against the Cleveland Browns. Yes, the same Cleveland Browns who turned up their nose at the chance to draft Wentz and instead dealt that pick to the Eagles for a boatload of draft picks.

Could the Eagles still win the NFC East? I won't rule it out. Then again, they also could struggle mightily and wind up with the dregs of the NFL.

If they win, it likely will not be because of Wentz. I don't care what anyone says, what he sees on Sunday will be unlike anything he has seen before. Certainly not anything he saw as he sparkled at North Dakota State.

Originally, I saw the Eagles under Bradford winning 9 or 10 games.

I don't think that's going to happen now. I see the Birds with maybe six or seven wins.

It's interesting that the Vikings have yet to name a starter for Sunday's game. I'm not buying them making that trade and then starting Shaun Hill. Bet on Bradford being their starting QB.

In the meantime, the Carson Wentz Era awaits.

I can't argue with anything Howie Roseman has done. He rolled the dice, got the guy he ID'd as a franchise QB, and then basically got all the picks back that he expended. The truth is this was going to be Wentz's team anyhow, it's just sooner rather than later.

But for now, I think that translates into another year missing the playoffs.

Make sure you check back here at the blog tomorrow morning for the return of the infamous "Dreaded Saturday Eagles Pick."
