What if they gave an NFL Draft Party, & the Eagles weren't there?

Doesn't it figure?

The NFL is bringing its now-traveling roadshow production of the NFL Draft to Philly next spring.

There will be a big press conference with Mayor Jim Kenney, NFL poobahs and Eagles officials at noon at City Hall to make the formal announcement.

Of course Philly would get to host the draft in a year when they don't have a first-round pick. That's right. Next year's No. 1 was shipped to the Browns so the Birds could move up and select Carson Wentz with the No. 2 pick in this year's draft.

You remember Carson. Played in the Eagles' first exhibition game. Suffered a couple of cracked ribs and has taken the rest of the summer off.

OK, not exactly, Wentz has been a constant in practice. But he has not gotten any valuable snaps in game situations, and the Eagles have given every indication that he might not even dress for the regular season games, deactivated while Chase Daniel handles the backup duties.

I'm guessing that will not keep Philly fans from showing up in force and letting the league know their opinions of the picks next spring. But it sure would be a lot more fun if the Birds had a high pick.

Then again, if Sam Bradford leads the Eagles to the playoffs - as I'm predicting he will - know one will probably care. But if for some reason (like maybe another knee injury) Bradford goes down, sinking the Eagles' season with it, and Wentz still is not seeing any action, fans likely will be grumbling seeing another team waltz up to the mic with what should have been the Birds' No. 1 pick.
