There's been no shortage of confrontations between communities and their police forces in recent months. The nation has been scarred by a series of fatal shootings between police officers and citizens, leading to questions of deadly force and a lack of mistrust between law enforcement and the people they are expected to protect.
This week that story got stood on its head in Upper Darby.
It's not every day you get to report on a group of citizens coming to a struggling officer's aid - let alone doing it with a golf club.
But that's what happened during a violent struggle between an Upper Darby officer and a suspect on a Drexel Hill street.
We think that kind of action deserves a salute.
And we did so on today's editorial page.
