The Phillies make the playoffs, sort of

There's no shortage of Phillies in the Major League Baseball playoffs.

Well, I guess I should clarify that statement.

Make that former Phillies.

That is particularly true of the members of the Phils' 2008 World Series Champions.

There's Chase Utley, Carlos Ruiz and Joe Blanton in Dodger Blue.

Cole Hamels is at the top of the Rangers' rotation. Things didn't go so well for the lefty yesterday. He got rocked by the Blue Jays as the Rangers dropped the opener in their NLDS game.

And don't forget Jayson Werth. The hairy one is still a stalwart in the Nationals' lineup and will be looking out there at Utley et al in this series, which opens later today in the nation's capital.

2008 seems like a distant memory to Phillies' fans.

Last weekend we said goodbye to the last "piece" of that championship team when Ryan Howard played what undoubtedly will be his last game for the Phils.

Thanks for the memories, guys.

Now it's time for Pete Mackanin's square to start making some memories of their own.
