Now is not the time to be silent in battle against bigotry

We used our editorial page to join the chorus of voices condemning the recent uptick in anti-Semitic acts.

This is not the time to be silent.

We want President Trump to speak out forcefully against such heinous acts as the desecration of more than 100 tombstones in a Jewish cemetery in Philadelphia. He did just that in his speech Tuesday night. Now he needs to keep the pedal to the metal.

But this is everyone's problem, not just the president, not just politicians, not just religious and faith leaders.

It starts in the home. Talk to your kids about bigotry. Let them know it's not acceptable.

Years of bitter partisan bickering have crossed the fine line from political differences to something much uglier.

The result? A country divided. A country too quick to point fingers. A country looking for someone to blame.

It's not us vs. them.

It just us. Just the U.S. One country.

Sometimes we forget that.
