'A Row Home Christmas' is pure Philly

Every family has its very own special holiday celebrations.

The same could be said for regions as well.

If you grew up in the Philadelphia area, there is a special holiday treat you need to give yourself.

Take in Big Daddy Graham's "A Row Home Christmas."

It is playing through New Year's Eve at the Swarthmore Players Club on Fairview Road.

I was there for the preview show Wednesday night. Actually, I was there for a little more than that. After each show, Big Daddy is doing a special question and answer session with the audience where they can ask him about the show, offer their thoughts and their own special holiday traditions.

Each night a member of the media serves as host for the Q&A. Last night was my turn. Don't worry, it gets better. Lots of WIP personalities such as Angelo Cataldi, Joe Conklin, Rhea Hughes, Glen Macnow and Ray Didinger (an old Daily Times alum by the way!) and even Phil Martelli will serve in the role.

Big Daddy, the longtime overnight host on WIP and a longtime fixture on the comedy circuit, plays a firefighter named Kevin who each year plays Santa in his old neighborhood. This particular Christmas Eve he winds up in his childhood home. Anyone who grew up in Philly will revel in Big Daddy's trip down Memory Lane.

And there is a special surprise at the end featuring a local Delco student. A huge thumb's up to Mikhaela McKinnie, a student at Drexel Hill Middle School. Keep your eye on her. She's a star in the making.

And one more Delco connection. Former Daily Times staff writer Anthony SanFilippo, a veteran of Swarthmore Players productions, directs the show.
