All Hail the Christmas Club

How old am I?

Raise your hand if you know what a Christmas Club is?

Keep your hand in the air if you still have one?

Guilty on both counts!

No, it's not a holiday party at your local pub.

A Christmas Club is the quaint notion of putting money aside, usually in a bank account (yes, some people still actually go to the bank!) each week so that when Christmas rolls around you have money to buy presents and other goodies.

I bring this up because on this date in 1909, the first Christmas Club account was actually opened right here in Pennsylvania

. My wife and I still put money aside each week, then we tap into it when holiday shopping rolls around.

Geez, at this rate I guess we should think about replacing that rotary phone.
