Impeaching justices? We don't think so

Don't look now but the battle of the 5th District is not over.

Yes, two different sets of judges this week backed the state Supreme Court's version of the state's Congressional districts.

The high court took action and drew up its own map after the one drawn up by Republicans in the Legislature back in 2011 was ruled an unconstitutional gerrymander that tilted the playing field toward their own candidates.

A series of legal disputes followed.

But the map - which puts all of Delaware County into one Congressional district - the 5th, while doing away with the old 7th and 1st Districts, is still in place.

So now some Republicans in Harrisburg are trying to kill the messenger.

They have introduced resolutions to start impeachment proceedings against the four Democratic justices who are responsible for the map.

You can debate whether or not the justices overstepped their bounds - and the job of the Legislature - in drawing up the maps. But an impeachable offense?

Hardly.

It's on our editorial page.

So you seemingly state this was unconstitutional overreach, then you say it is better while favoring Democrats.
