The battle of Mariner East 2 rages on.
Yesterday County Council once again deadlocked on a proposal to put out bids for an independent risk assessment study sought by community members who have serious concerns about Sunoco's massive project to push volatile gases through the pipeline - and through densely populated neighborhoods - on its way to Marcus Hook.
It was the second time in as many weeks that Council has failed to break a 2-2 deadlock. They are planning to give it another shot.
In the meantime, over in Chester County, commissioners and emergency services officials there fired off a strongly worded letter to the state Public Utility Commission urging the continued suspension of operations on the existing Mariner East 1 pipeline across the state, and the halt to construction on ME2 in West Whiteland Township.
And we also are hearing reports of new problems at ME2 construction sites here in Delaware County.
Yesterday I talked to the owner of the Tunbridge Apartments off Glen Riddle Road in Middletown. He described the situation there - which has been plagued with runoff incidents from pipeline digging - as a 'disaster.'
We'll be checking out those reports and others as well today.
