How sweet it ain't.
The Phillies were thisclose to a sweep of the Washington Nationals in D.C. last night.
But a familiar problem once again cropped up - this time on national TV.
After a rain delay, starter Nick Pivetta returned and worked through the 5th inning. The Phils had built a 6-2 lead on homers by Rhys Hoskins and Nick Williams.
But the Phils' bullpen once again coughed up a golden opportunity, not exactly a novel situation this season.
The loss snapped a three-game win streak for the Phillies.
It's pretty apparent that what the Phils are doing in the bullpen is not working. It's time for G.M. Matt Klentak to acquire another arm to give manager Gabe Kapler some more options.
Speaking of Kapler, columnist Jack McCaffery says his calm demeanor and fun approach to the game has been the perfect fit for this young Phillies squad, which continues to content in the NL East.
