A salute to the kids from Aston-Middletown and Ridley

This is what you get in your local community newspaper.

This morning we have full coverage of both last night's Phillies games with the Mets in New York City, including the walk-off homer that cost them the first game, and the heroics of Aaron Nola in the nightcap. Nola proved why he's an All-Star and just maybe the best pitcher in the National League, improving to 12-2 by allowing the Mets just one hit in seven scoreless innings.

Jack McCaffery was in the Big Apple at CitiField to capture Nola's night, which included knocking in all three Phillies runs with a bases-loaded double.

But that is not what dominates our Back Page this morning.

That honor is reserved for the kids from Aston-Middletown, who relished in their upstart underdog role, beating the kids from Ridley to force a deciding Game 3 in the District 19 Little League Majors.

Matt Smith was there to capture the action, along with photos from Pete Bannan.

I don't know if any of these kids will ever suit up for the Phillies one day.

We just cover them as if they will.

The championship game is tonight. We'll be there to cover it.

That's what a community newspaper does.

That's community journalism.
