Hear this Lion roar: Kudos for Rob Knox

Even after all these years, there is still nothing I like more than a great headline.

So, yes, I had a big smile on my face when I saw this head in the Sunday Times: Opportunity Knox for new CoSIDA president.

But this was more than that.

This was about a friend, and a Daily Times alum.

Rob Knox was a one-time sports writer at the paper. He developed a style that became wildly popular in his coverage of high school sports, in particular hoops.

Rob, a Chester native and Chester High product, is credited with calling the Chester High gym 'The Clip Joint,' a name that still stands today.

It turns out Rob and I had something else in common.

We were both Lions.

Lincoln Lions.

Rob was a graduate of Lincoln University. I attended classes at the HBCU for my first two years of college. That stands for Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Yes, I attended a majority black school. It was an eye-opening experience - and one of the seminal experiences of my life. I wish everyone could experience that small slice of the minority experience. I think we would be light years ahead of where we are now, fighting the same battles we've been having for decades.

Rob left the Daily Times, first for ESPN, and then as he delved into the world of college sports information.

Last week Rob, who was toiled at Towson University outside Baltimore the last few years, was named the president of the College Sports Information Directors organization.

You can read the story about Rob's fantastic achievements here.

You did us proud, Rob.
