Something that has never happened before in Philly sports

Something will happen today that has never happened before in Philadelphia sports history.

No, not a guy named Plouffe hitting a walk-off homer to lift the Phillies to a win over the Dodgers in a six-hour marathon that stretched to 1:14 a.m. You can read about that one here, since it ended to late for the print edition.

This is what I'm talking about.

The Philadelphia Eagles report to training camp today - as the defending Super Bowl champions!

Damn, I still like the way that sounds.

Yes, the Birds have won NFL Championships before. In fact, they did it back to back in 1948 and '49. They won another in 1960.

But they had never won a Super Bowl until Doug Pederson's crew toppled Tom Brady, Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots last February in Super Bowl LII.

Yes, we had to wait 52 years to see the Eagles raise the Lombardi Trophy.

Can you say repeat?

Check out our Birds beat writer Bob Grotz's take as the Eagles head to camp - as the Super Bowl champions!
