A flood of problems

I don't have a lot of nice things to say about the schedule I keep.

Yesterday was an exception. At the early hour I arrive at the office, it had not yet started to rain.

Those who keep a more normal lifestyle didn't have that luxury.

Our new office here in Swarthmore sounds like someone is beating a drum when rain starts falling on the roof.

Yesterday morning, it sounded like they were filming a remake to "Drumline" up there.

It was teeming. And it did not stop for about 45 minutes.

At one point I joked with a person arriving at the office - and showing the effects of being drenched - if we should consider building an ark. I was only partly joking.

The result? About what you would expect.

We can always round the usual suspects.

Marshall Road in Upper Darby went under water. People had to be rescued from their cars. An Upper Darby patrolman was rescued by some heroic neighbors and township employees when he stepped into an open sewer grate that was hidden under the water.

Down in Darby, the main intersection in town at MacDade and Springfield Road was submerged. The fire company was using its ladder truck to rescue people from their homes and apartments. At one point they declared a state of emergency in the borough.

Today things appear to be a lot calmer. The water continues to recede. But there is a chance of more storms later today as well. We continue to be under a flood warning until about 2 p.m.

But it looks like we're going to finally get a couple of days of nice, sunny, dry weather.

Here's the details on yesterday's flooding.
