A new addition to the Heron's Nest

I have been writing this blog now for more than a decade.

It is named, appropriately enough, in a bit of a takeoff on my last name - and the bird of the same moniker.

Yes, it has been said more than once that we have the same legs.

I am always on the hunt for interesting Heron-related items to add to the Heron's Nest.

In fact, my wife, in the midst of some redecorating on the homefront, has turned over our sun room (yes, the same spot I still lament as the former home of our screened-in porch) into something of a Heron motif. She has adorned the walls with various Heron prints, including one fabulous rendition she picked up at a yard sale that must have been related to a restaurant called The Blue Heron.

She even has two Heron ottomans she found online.

But we very possibly might have stumbled onto the crowning achievement during a rainy day last week in Rehoboth Beach, Del., where we vacation every summer.

We were doing our normal wandering through the various T-shirt and knick-knack shops debating whether we wanted to buy a couple of sweatshirts to ward off the rainy chill when we literally stumbled into a new addition on Rehoboth Avenue, the main drag in town.

It's called Red Mill Monograms. And what they do is create customized wall art out of lightweight pieces of PVC.

We were looking at the dozens of designs hanging on the walls, including pro teams, colleges, and all sorts of other creations.

That's when I happened to ask the proprietor, almost as a joke, if he had any Heron designs.

I was stunned when he said, "We sure do."

This is the result, which now hangs proudly as the crowning achievement in our sun room.

Many thanks to Greg and Nicole Troup at Red Mill Monograms. You can learn more about this neat spot here.
