Just what the Eagles did not need - a Foles injury

It's the one thing Eagles fans did not want to see in this year's preseason.

There was Nick Foles - the reigning Super Bowl MVP - trotting off the field in last night's rematch against their Super Bowl foe the New England Patriots. And he was favoring his right shoulder.

After the game Foles downplayed the shoulder strain. But with the opener against the Atlanta Falcons now less than three weeks away, and with the status of starter Carson Wentz still up in the air, this is not what fans wanted to see.

The Eagles should not allow the injury to Foles change Wentz's status. While everyone has been talking confidently about Wentz's recovery from a knee injury that ended his season last year, I never really expected him to be ready for opening day.

And I don't think the Foles injury should change that.

It's going to be a very interesting couple of weeks for the Birds.

In the meantime, Brady and Bill Belichick got even with the Birds, although I don't think anyone is going to confuse a meaningless preseason game with the Super Bowl.

Of course, that meaningless status just took on a whole new ominous note if the Foles injury turns out to be worse than expected.

And just for kicks, yes, Foles and Brady did manage to finally shake hands. Brady took some heat for failing to do so as the confetti rained down on the teams after the Eagles win in Super Bowl LII back in February.
