On with the regular season

I'd like to report a robbery.

It occurred last night at Lincoln Financial Field.

The victim? Anyone who paid to watch that dreck that got passed off as an NFL football game.

Here's an idea for NFL owners. Maybe they should make that fourth preseason game, in which none of expected regular season starters play, free admission. Then make people pay to get out. They'd make a fortune.

But at least it's over.

And we don't have long to wait for the real thing.

The Eagles kick off the NFL season next Thursday night vs. the Falcons in a nationally televised game at the Linc.

The big question, of course, remains who will be behind center for the Birds.

I know everyone wants to see Carson Wentz, who looks great as he rehabs from a knee injury that ended his season early last year. I'm just not sure I'd risk the future of the franchise.

Doug Pederson says he will know today, but he probably will not tell us until later, maybe right before kickoff.

For now, I'm looking forward to next Thursday and the nation hearing the following words: Welcome to Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, home of the SUPER BOWL CHAMPION PHILADELPHIA EAGLES.

Still like the sound of that.
