They kicked off the Eagles season in style last night on State Street in Media.
It only seemed right. You may remember that before the Super Bowl last February the county seat threw a pep rally to spur the Birds on. So last night they looked to return the favor, holding a pep rally in advance of tonight's exhibition opener to celebrate the return of football - and the defending Super Bowl Champions.
No, I'm still not tired of saying that.
Media combined the Eagles rally with their great summer Wednesday night tradition, Dining Under the Stars, when they shut down State Street and allow local eateries to set up their tables al fresco in the street.
But the night also was meant to kick off opening night of a very special show on the stage at Media Theatre.
"Tommy and Me" is the work of Hall of Fame sportswriter Ray Didinger, who just happens to be a Daily Times alum.
"Tommy and Me" is an autobiographical tale of how Ray helped Eagles great Tommy McDonald reach the NFL Hall of Fame. It debuted last night.
Every night after the show, Ray will hold a question and answer session featuring local celebrities and journalists.
On Saturday night, you can hear Daily Times columnist Jack McCaffery co-host with Gene Collier of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
A week from Saturday night, Aug. 18, it will be my extreme good fortune to co-host the chat with all-time Eagles great linebacker Seth Joyner.
I can't wait.
