Another reprieve for Chester Water Authority

There is good news for customers of Delco's iconic water company, the Chester Water Authority.

The sparkling water that comes to you from the Octoraro Reservoir on the border of Chester and Lancaster County outside my home town is not going away.

Fears had been raised over the past year that the water company - which serves 19 Delco towns - could be on the block, in part because the city of Chester needed the revenue as it tries to climb out of Act 47 'distressed' status.

At one point the water giant Aqua America even made a big-buck unsolicted offer to buy the company. That caused an uproar from customers and municipalities, who in turn put pressure on the CWA board. The offer was rejected.

But the firm hired by the state to guide Chester's finances and help them escape that 'distressed' tag continued to look longingly at the water company.

Now it appears the city no longer needs the money from a sale of all or part of the water company.

That's good news for Chester. And Chester Water Authority. And its customers.

We talk about it on today's editorial page.
